Just Off The Easel...

I just completed these 4 pieces for the Marco Fuoco Gallery's Animal & Environmental Show. These are painted doodles done in acrylic & ink. The top 2 are remakes of old folk art paintings I did in the past that I think are fun. The bottom 2 were done specifically for the show in protest, disgust and sorrow due to the current oil disaster. To me it's not a "spill" and it infuriates me when the media calls it a "spill". Ok I won't get started, work myself up, then start crying again. I actually started crying when I was painting the flamingos. They get their beautiful color from the shrimp & planktin, I painted them black and I painted the pink part in their bodies to reflect their emptiness, as well as mine.

I will be selling prints of these in my Etsy Shop. If I say so myself these are so cute in frames. I dropped them off at the gallery this morning and once put into frames I almost wanted to take them back home! LOL

Big Shout Out goes to "Whatshername" for featuring my new mermaid doodle in her very cool Etsy Treasury!

Entertaining Myself

The Marco Fuoco Gallery's April show's theme is Surrealism. Unfortunately I won't be able to attend the show on April 10th but I do plan to get over there to see the pieces for sure.
Honestly other than being familiar with a few famous pieces, mainly Salvadore Dali's , surrealism is a genre I didn't know much about. I love this Wiki picture of Dali. Looks like an interesting dinner companion don't you think?! I spent a few interesting hours reading & learning about surrealism. I then headed up to my studio to work on a few pieces. I find myself working on more than one piece at a time lately. I was just cleaning up to go to bed when I spied this canvas. It has been painted a couple of times, *experiments*, ready for the recycle bin really, and this vision popped into my head. I applied my first layer of paint for my practice in surrealism. I ended up staying up to the wee hours of the morning happily entertaining myself with this piece. I may finish it one day. I was having so much fun I lost track of time and had to tip toe to bed & slither delicately under the covers.

even with the chopping block close at hand
Completely comfortable with eyes that are always on,
but they weight on the shoulders like sleep deprived lids

one self's biggest fan
Oblivious to "critical" acclaim

On The Easel...

This is a painting I am working on today. It's not finished, just thought I'd give you a peek! The Marco Fuoco Gallery has invited me to bring it with my other paintings for the Summer Color show on Saturday and I will if I get it finished! I was thinking about the circus/carnival out in the middle of the desert, in the middle of no where, that I saw on my drive back from South Carolina, and I grabbed a canvas. It's just silly and I've have a lot of fun painting this one.

Today I'm Hanging

I was up in the wee hours last night finishing up 2 paintings for a gallery exhibit this weekend. It was kind of a short notice invitation but I got it done. I did remakes of a couple of paintings that I had done in the past. I think they came out better than the 1st time around! I didn't take pictures, sorry. One was an angel like below in red done on a 12 x 24 canvas only I put hearts in her hair. The other was my Love Grows, trees with hearts dripping from it. I have a bookmark with the 1st Love Grows in my Etsy shop if you want to take a peek. I did that one on a 8 x 10 canvas. My husband and I drove them down this morning to Cafe Refugio and got them hung up. The theme of the show is Love. What else on Valentine's day right?! I am looking forward to going to all the gallery shows on Saturday. I can't wait to see what my Swell Sister's have done at the 30/30 show at the Marco Fuoco Gallery. That was the one I decided not to participate in a few weeks ago. 30 paintings, 30 days, 6 x 6 pieces. I bet the gallery is going to look so awesome. It was tempting to stop in and take a peek today! We didn't. I just drove straight home. I kind of feel like I am coming down with a little bug today. Maybe I'm just tired so I'm having flu like feelings. So I'm just hangin around today not getting much done. Hopefully I'll be bright & shiny tomorrow. I have too many things I have to do, need to do and want to do!

A big Thank You goes to Darla at ArtisticAccents on Etsy for featuring one of my angel cats in her heavenly Treasury! You can check out her art & shop here.

This is so sneaky! I think I'll pull this on my son or husband next time they come into my studio! hehe I know I'm bad. hehe

I Was Crazy

I have decided not to participate in the 30/30 Show at the Marco Fuoco Gallery but will definitely love to be included in future shows. I was "mad" thinking that I could do a painting for the show and a painting to list everyday for 30 days. While my angels may look simple, some have layers upon layers of paint. Some come together fairly quickly but others take quite a bit of time. I only quit painting when they shout stop!

I just listed these paintings that were recently in 2 Sacramento galleries in my Ebay Store today. I will be listing more "Aura Angels" this week in my Ebay store and in my Etsy shop. A few of my new ones are my favorites of all time!

I am babysitting my little JJ on Mondays now so Mom can go to school. He was a little under the weather, he wasn't his normal smiley self. He just wanted me to hold him, so I held him all day yesterday. He's growing so fast and has 2 teeth already!

A big thank you goes out to Beadsforever. She featured my Sunshine Angel in her Etsy Treasury full of bright & wonderful items. You know how I like yellow! Her shop & creations are wonderful be sure to check her out!

I May Be Mad!

Just listed in my Etsy shop... This painting recently hung in the Marco Fuoco Gallery in Sacramento. Sorry for the bad photo - I'll blame it on my old camera and probably too many cups of coffee.

The Marco Fuoco Gallery is having a 30/30 show and it may be madness but I'm in. 30 artist, 30 paintings in 30 days! It's going to be a challenge. All paintings are to be 6 x 6 and will sell between $50 to $300. The 20th Street Gallery is having a simular show called 50/50 - it's the same, 50 artists, 50 paintings, 50 days. Maybe next year. 50 seems to overwhelming at the moment.

A big shout out & thank you goes out to Amber Sky for featuring my Lady in Red Hat & Roses in her beautiful Treasury on Etsy.com. Check out her beautiful jewelry!

I was asked why my angel's eyes don't match. Well... I do that on purpose. Eyes are the windows to the soul, they give us character and they don't match. By exaggerating that I think it gives them a spirit & sense that they are thinking something. From one side to the other each angel appears to have to sides, 2 expressions. I don't draw them out before I start painting. They come to life on their own. Also by exaggerating the eyes I create a bit of a "fun house" effect as well. I like it even though it's a tad creepy. Their eyes follow you. Stand up, look into her eyes and walk to one side of your screen to the other, or just move from one side to the other......SEE! (sorry that was a bad pun haha)

ACEOs just listed on Ebay... All 3 angels are featured on one of the bookmarks in the sets for sale in my Etsy shop. These angels feel a little nostalgic to me with their pretty hair bobs.

The Ultimate in Industrial Chic Decor!

Exciting news... November 8th my work will be in 2 galleries! I will have 4 paintings at the Marco Fuoco Gallery and the Pink Angel at Tangent Gallery. I will have to divide my time between both openings that night. It's going to be crazy fun! I'm so excited!

A stairway to heaven? No. It's a section of the original Eiffel tower that is going to be sold by Sotheby's on November 26th as part of their 20th Century Decorative Arts & Design sale in Paris. So here's your chance, a rare opportunity to own a piece of Paris and a piece of history! For more info about the Eiffel tower and this sale you can visit www.artdaily.org. I wonder what the shipping cost would be...

If I were to go to Paris you wouldn't catch me going up the Eiffel Tower. I am terrified of heights and not too fond of elevators either. This video even makes me woozie. I don't think I'd be able to walk up either. I think the iron work is amazing and would be happy just to gaze up at it in awe. It is truly a large piece of art.
