Another One...

...but not exactly like the other one. I started over. Started a new painting for the Bee show. While I like the piece I started already (click here to see), there was just didn't seem to be emotion that I wanted and enough vintage feel to her. So rather than re-do her I decided to start another. I will be finishing the first one and selling her in the future but she won't be for the Bee show.
I am feeling better about this new one so far. What do you think? She looks more vintage and has a lot more emotion. Kind of a combination of pity, sadness, sweet compassion & love. I kept thinking she reminded me of someone as she was taking shape last night but I couldn't put my finger on it. This morning while I worked on her a little more the memory hit me! It was the summer I moved from "Fun Sun City" aka Mrytle Beach, SC to the middle of nowhere, the Mojave Desert, CA aka "Hell". Oh yes I know I wasn't fun to be around. Before I met friends I would stay up until the wee hours of the morning watching old movies, then sleep all day laying out in the sun. Remember those days? To this day American In Paris remains one of my favorite movies. I don't even know how many times I watched it, that summer or in my life, I own that one. Another movie I loved too was Damn Yankees. I'd sing along with Gwen Verdon "Whatever Lola wants, Lola gets"! then it would be stuck in my head. Geez I probably drove my parents crazy. Now it might be stuck in your head too! haha When I decided to tell this little story today I couldn't remember her name, so I looked her up and lo & behold there was a picture of her on the cover of Time magazine looking almost like my Angel! I don't know what year this was from.
BTW For those of you that don't think musicals are real life, you should stay with me for a few days. Busting out in song & dance around here happens all the time!

Back At It

I'm back at it today and feeling almost completely normal after having a stomach flu. It started with the baby then took us all down one by one. I am sparing you the awful details. You're welcome.

The female terrorist attacks yesterday on the subway in Moscow really freaked me out. It's put me in a bit of a funk. On March 20th I had a bad dream in which I witnessed a female terrorist blowing up a ship. As she was blowing it up she turned her head around and looked at me. It was so creepy & terrifying that it woke me up. It seemed so real that I actually wrote it down because I was worried it might happen. A premonition? a weird coincidence? Horrible doesn't even describe how the people in Moscow are feeling I'm sure. Saying prayers for the families that have lost loved ones. A Big Shout Out goes to Sweet Heart Studios & Green Trunk Designs for including my art in their wonderful Etsy Treasuries! They would love you to visit their Etsy shops!

Entertaining Myself

The Marco Fuoco Gallery's April show's theme is Surrealism. Unfortunately I won't be able to attend the show on April 10th but I do plan to get over there to see the pieces for sure.
Honestly other than being familiar with a few famous pieces, mainly Salvadore Dali's , surrealism is a genre I didn't know much about. I love this Wiki picture of Dali. Looks like an interesting dinner companion don't you think?! I spent a few interesting hours reading & learning about surrealism. I then headed up to my studio to work on a few pieces. I find myself working on more than one piece at a time lately. I was just cleaning up to go to bed when I spied this canvas. It has been painted a couple of times, *experiments*, ready for the recycle bin really, and this vision popped into my head. I applied my first layer of paint for my practice in surrealism. I ended up staying up to the wee hours of the morning happily entertaining myself with this piece. I may finish it one day. I was having so much fun I lost track of time and had to tip toe to bed & slither delicately under the covers.

Sticking the neck out is always easy
even with the chopping block close at hand
Completely comfortable with eyes that are always on,
but they weight on the shoulders like sleep deprived lids
Motivated and Blinded by the rose colored glasses,
one self's biggest fan
Oblivious to "critical" acclaim

Happy St Patrick's Day!

An Irish Prayer for you...
May God give you...
For every storm, a rainbow,
For every tear, a smile,
For every care, a promise,
And a blessing in each trial.
For every problem life sends,
A faithful friend to share,
For every sigh, a sweet song,
And an answer for each prayer.

Work In Progress

My Gallery show was so fun. There were lots of people and great art. I started this painting which is large 18 x 24 for the Bee show in May. This is in the first few layers stage. It's inspired by my love of bees & vintage vase heads. I started a collection about 10 years ago but in a tragic accident they were all broken except for one. It's a Napco 1959, grey suit & pearls. I keep pale pink silk roses in her hat. One day I may be able to start collecting them again, until then I'll have these Angels.

A Downtown Day

My piece "The Clearing" was chosen to be in Tanget Gallery's show! This is my 2nd time to be chosen to be in one of their shows and I'm so flattered. I can't wait to see all the pieces in this show. The piece on the poster gets me all excited! I am taking my painting downtown to the gallery today and then headed to a Swell Sister meeting. Masako Yniguez is our guest speaker tonight. I am looking forward to hearing her speak.

I wanted take my camera with me to take some shots here and there, but alas, I am sitting here blogging with my hair in curlers. Allergies have me feeling tired & flu-ish. The reason I wanted to take some pictures was that I have this big 7 ft hollow core door in the garage that I wanted to paint a whimsical piece of Sacramento on that popped into my head one day. I have it roughly sketched out but haven't started painting. I want to see a couple of places downtown not just remember them in my head. I just know that door is on borrowed time down there. I'm sure it won't be long and Hubby will have it in the shed or worse, headed to the dumps, so I have to start working on it. I plan to incorporate some of my bees into the piece for the upcoming Bee show that I will be participating in, if it's not too big. You can see some details Here. Laurelin Gilmore is fabulous artist & a Swell Sister of mine. She has been working very hard on getting this show off the ground.
My new Angel... I'm having fun playing around with a little different layering technique.

Dodged That Bullet!

I went to a new dentist today. I can't express how relieved I am to have that over with and find out that I like Dr. Forrest Boozer. Isn't that a great name?! I bit my tongue and didn't tease him, though it was tempting. I'm sure he gets that a lot and I already feel sorry enough for him for getting me as a new patient. I liked him and the girls in the office so much I might actually start feeling better about going to the dentist. I'm so bad. I wouldn't want me for a patient. I can take the needle but I can't take the drill. My jaw is tightening even typing about it. My whole body shakes uncontrollably and I hold my breath too. He has sedation but I would try to be brave without it, and probably couldn't afford it, so he might need to be using that on himself after he's done with me. haha But I dodged that bullet. I'm good. No cavities! Hey Mom look no cavities! (geez am I dating myself now) I've been putting off going because I hate it so much but I couldn't put it off any longer, I have a few really sensitive teeth. I was expecting the worse. Such a big relief, no drilling, root canals, crowns, I'm good! They put fluoride on my sensitive areas and I hope that works. They became super sensitive shortly after using an over the counter whitening product on them. Going to the dentist, even when I just have a cleaning, it is a big source of anxiety, I fret over it, put it off, and I have often canceled out at the last minute. I was told that I have a little mouth and they said they could even put that in writing! I should have had them do that so I could post it! LOL I love art but this is definitely out of the question for me...and a grill...forget about it!

Tooth art & photo was found at Fun is 2 Cool.

Work In Progress

Here's that sneak peek of the Drama Queen. Yes I'm still working on it. After it scared me and I changed the evil crown, I just sort of left it all by it's lonesome in a corner. I worked on it some today but still have lots to do, this is basically the first layer, and thought I finished this Angel. There are a couple more tweeks I need to do to it, that I always notice after I see it on the computer for some reason. I will be listing her tomorrow but not sure where yet. I'm checking on some new online venues. Check out my Zazzle store I just opened! If you would like a particular piece of my art on something just shoot me an email."Secrets"
A Big Shout Out goes to Sweet Heart Studio for featuring my Swimmer in her wonderful Etsy Treasury! Check it out here. An Ocean of pretty things.
