Roots...

Finished!
A little update on work in progress. Yes this is the same painting that is in the last post.  You can see how it's morphed.  This is a colorful piece! I'm almost finished with it but still have a bit to do before I call Him completed.

I painted today.  My Mom encouraged me to paint. When she asked why I am letting the enemy stop me from painting, I understood what was happening.  Although it was she who bought me unspun wool and got me sidetracked teaching myself to spin yarn (another post),  paint is what I did today! I must admit it felt good. I have lots of paintings in my head, however, these are random, nothing drawn out first.   My Mom and I talk nearly everyday.  I know God loves me because he gave me her as a mother.  She is really my best friend and she is kooky.  She is my root and she keeps me grounded.  Thinking about that I decided to paint on wood today. It's been a few years. I went back to my roots.  Old wood is still my favorite & most humble canvas. I need more wood!

Right side of her face is Sweet & Compassionate~ the Left side is Strong & Hopeful.  I am not finished with her either.

ACEO size piece of wood

I also did a Whale painting but that's my next post!
Create a great day!

On My Easel...

Another oval work in progress, ...my last oval canvas...I think I will be buying more!
(I have to use a maginifying glass at times)
and this is a 4 x 6" piece of paper and I am putting all my left over paint from my pallet on from the top piece to the 2nd piece, just willy nilly I say. I had a bunch of turquoise I mixed up and didn't want to waste it.  Blue, green, touch of yellow, white & touch of black, yep black.  For skin tone I usually mix green & red together then add white & maybe a touch of yellow or burnt sienna.
This is NOT finished! She looks like she has a shiner, or a really dark side.  I do like to make my faces with 2 sides, 2 different expressions but now she kinda scares me. hahaha  Hold your hand over 1/2 of her face and you will see what I mean.  See the difference in my style from one to the other? The oval I started with a white canvas with a red wash. The paper was waiting to be painted & was already painted black.  When I paint with a white canvas, my painting seems much more delicate, I take my time, I draw it out, I plan it in my head, doing light washes or light scruffing over the last.   My brain doesn't work that way, however, with an initial black canvas, I usually don't draw anything. It's like I see backwards.  I'm more free too, whacking the paint any which a way.   I would love to do a class. I have had several people say that if I did they would buy it.  Lord knows I can use the money but beyond that it would be cool to be able to share what I have learned with other Artist who may be just getting started. I had an opportunity to participate in Soul Food but I wasn't ready and I actually don't know how to make a video or class and I'm shy and extremely critical of myself in nearly every way.  My sister helps me with that.  So any tips to making a video or class is appreciated! Here is another I have started on a large 36 x 20". I began with a white canvas and just randomly wash, splatter, scrape, squirt, rub, scrub & paint.
I'm a little stuck at this point. So I have been painting the ovals, and doing these painted ACEO Zentangles or Zendoodles...
This is my newest I am working on, not yet finished or listed.  I draw these with ink then paint them. Lots of fun.  What is so fun about them is the Lord looks different, yet the same in every little painting!   I have lots that are drawn out, as well as some other pieces on paper, I'm guessing 20ish.  It feels good to be painting again but there are days when I don't know where to start!

Sorry I didn't post a "Ta Da" this week.  It's been a rough one. I didn't take the time to put it together & take all the pictures. I just lost myself in housework & paint.  My BFF lost her mother and may have cancer again.  Please say prayers for my Layne.
Thanks for stopping by & God Bless!

...you a Very Merry Christmas!

For to us a child is born, to us a son is given, and the government will be on his shoulders. And he will be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace. Of the increase of his government and peace there will be no end. He will reign on David's throne and over his kingdom, establishing and upholding it with justice and righteousness from that time on and forever. The zeal of the LORD Almighty will accomplish this. A Little Word on Wednesday...

John 15:10 ...'If ye keep my commandments, ye shall abide in my love; even as I have kept my Father's commandments, and abide in his love.'

I wanted to post a beautiful painting of Christ by Raymond Doward , a fellow Etsy Seller, along with this scripture but for some reason Blogger shuts off when I try to upload a photo.  You can check out his beautiful painting here: https://www.etsy.com/listing/150917711   I love his painting. The stern yet kind & loving expression.
I am having this problem with Yahoo email as well. Anyone else having this problem? Anyone know how to fix it?
I have been painting this week and while under the weather I have become a Pinterest Addict! You can check out my boards & favorite picks here: http://pinterest.com/folkartjane/boards/  I especially love my board called "Crafty Cravings" which is full of inspiration and fun projects!

Failure...

... I can't do it... well, no I just didn't do it. I started this month with a strong determination to paint the Lord each day as a daily devotion that could also bless others but I failed. With all good intentions life just gets in the way. I have to give a shout out to those of you who participate in these daily paintings! I could blame it on a variety of things but when all is said and done, it didn't get done. I am not going to try not to beat myself up and if you were planning to paint the Lord along with me but haven't don't beat yourself up eihter. He loves us anyway.

In Loving Memory...

...Of my Uncle David Hanna who went to be with the Lord today.  There is no question in anyone's mind that he is in Heaven.  He was dearly loved by many & led many to the Lord.

For the month of March I am going to try and do a daily painting of Christ Jesus. If you would like to paint, sketch, sculpt, create a piece right along with me, please put your link here to your page so that we can see yours.  Even if you do only 1 piece we would all love to see it!

Promised Demo

"He Lives"

As you can tell in the video I had started another, then stopped to video. I left the 1st one to finish later. It's a lot of fun to get into your right brain and just let the paint & spirit flow. It was many coats and the time is severly edited. Layers, layers, & layers.
I hope you enjoy the video.  Sorry it's shakey in parts, I actually painted with one hand and held the camera in the other...and then the phone rang! Maybe I can get my son to fix it for me.
Have a wonderful Sunday. I hope you let the Spirit move you.

LoVe LoVe LoVe

Happy Valentine's Day!

Know you are Loved!

"A new commandment I give to you, that you love one another, even as I have loved you, that you also love one another. By this all men will know that you are My disciples, if you have love for one another."
This piece is on a 5 x7 canvas panel. I didn't start with a black canvas which is so different for me. Somehow my brain sees inside out when I'm painting, if that makes any sense. The black or outlines on most of my paintings is where I didn't put paint.   I have been having fun experimenting with very thin washes of acrylic paint, using them more like watercolors than oils.  I have tried using watercolors countless times just to destroy a piece of good paper & make a mess.  Using a canvas & acrylic paint, if I mess up or don't like something,  I know I can start all over again, I suppose that's comforting in a way, no pressure.  I am planning to do a new video in the next week or so!

Abstract Anxiety...

"Forgiving" 6 x 6

"Understanding" 16 x 20

These are the first abstracts that I am parting with. It's a little scary. They were painted w/ layers & layers of acrylic paint, scraped, scratched, brushed & rubbed.

What A Wonderful Way...

...to start this week! I woke up to find that one of my paintings was featured on the Christian Artist Team Blog . What a sweet surprise and a wonderful post in which to be included in. Thank you! One of my Angels was also featured in this eye-popping Etsy Treasury made by Angelpupscreations. I love her nail & wire crosses.

This weekend I worked on a crocheted baby blanket for my niece. She's having a girl and this is not the typical pink baby blanket. I feel bad I didn't have it finished in time to mail for her baby shower, but better late than never. You know how I love bees..... I searched for a bee pattern but couldn't find any that I thought would work so I had to make this one up. I think they came out pretty cute if I say so myself. I'm thinking it needs a few flowers here & there as well. The blanket itself is made of black & white strips that crochet up really fast. I am pleased how this is turning out and I hope she likes it. In May there is a Bee Gallery Opening/Benefit which I plan to be participating in. If I have time I may make another one for that show as well as a painting & my bee zines.
I ate oriental food all weekend. Just craving it. I even stayed up late last night painting this piece! I am selling prints of it in my Etsy Shop. Looking at this piece today makes me want to eat some more! I treasure my memories of living in Japan, although as a child I didn't eat sushi. My favorite thing was the animal shaped pancakes filled with sweet red beans that they had at every festival. I had so much fun painting this that I may paint some more. In addition to craving oriental food on my plate, I'm craving sage green on my palette. Maybe it's the weather, gray skies, wintry muted colors? Don't worry I'll snap out of it. haha
