Why Didn't I Think of It?...

... Nom Nom Nom! I feel silly!
My son invited me over for dinner a few weeks ago
and served "Sushi Bake". (Did you just hear Angels singing? If it wasn't them it was me. haha)
He had told me about this recipe after a trip to San Diego where it was served at a party. I really didn't get it until I saw & tasted it!  Then I really did feel a little foolish that I had never thought of making something so simple! Especially as much as me & my family love sushi! It's hot outside today & we went to Hop Sing Palace (best Egg Fu Yung ever) for lunch in Old Folsom so Sushi Bake is perfect for a light & easy dinner.  The recipe calls for baking it; hence the name; but I actually popped it into the microwave for 10 minutes and it's just as good.  The recipe can be tweeked with anything that you like on top.  Tonight I substituted the recipe for 1 can of crab & 1/2 package of imitation crab and on one side of dish I used canned salmon.  Here is the recipe I normally use:
***
2 C uncooked short grain white Rice
approx. 1/2 jar Furikake Rice Seasoning
1 C Sour Cream
1 C Mayo
2 Tbsp Sirracha (can use more of less depending on how hot you like it)
Roasted Nori - individual pieces - **
2 cans of crab meat or 1 pkg of imitation crab shredded
1 C cooked Shrimp chopped or baby shrimp
Tobiko ( orange tiny fish roe) approx. 1/4 c  aka Masago
2 Green onions sliced thinly
1 tbsp Sugar
approx. 1-2 tbsp Rice Vinegar to sprinkle over hot rice
9 x 13 baking dish
Cook rice.  Mix mayo, sour cream & srirracha. Reserve 1/2 c to use as topping sauce.  Add crab & shrimp to remaining sauce. When rice is cooked, fluff with 1/4 container of Furikake, sprinkle with sugar & vinegar.  Mix well. When cool enough press evenly into bottom of baking dish. Evenly spread crab & shrimp mixture over rice. Sprinkle again with even layer of Furikake. Then evenly spread or sprinkle on Tobiko. Top green onions.
Bake at 375 for 15 to 20 minutes.
Serve warm or at room temp (it's good cold out of the frig the next day too)
Spoon mixture into pieces of Nori & top w/ sauces if you like.

Impress My Friends?...

...Why yes I would like to impress my friends with these at my next dinner party! Those little rat bastards aren't too hard to make!hahaha LOL Rat Bastards is my favorite cuss to say. I'm not proud, it just slips out. Those who know me are laughing their butts off about now. I had to share because honestly who wouldn't like a cute little rat garnish instead of a tired radish standby, the rose? Keep playing with your food Chef Justin! I love it!

Promises Promises!

I am really in a funk lately. I have made some videos, started a new blog, listed a few older pieces as prints in my Etsy shop , put together a few series for A Cake Dream ,(who will be putting my art on their Art Gallery Cookies!), made a few goodies for someone special, have some pieces in a gallery, & probably a few other things I can't think of right now so I've been sort of busy. I promise myself I'm going to paint, then don't do it, so because I'm not painting, I feel like I'm not getting anything done. Sales have been very slow lately even with all the wonderful exposure & attention people are generously giving me. It's a little discouraging so I guess subconsciously I think I need to do other things rather than paint? funk. I have been worrying a little that I may have to go back to life in a cubicle. I'm not usually one to worry. I tell other people not to worry so why am I doing it myself? funk. I'm spending way too much time thinking of things to do, things I should do, making lists of things to do & then not doing them. funk. Today I straightened up my studio a little but have created nothing again but a mess. A nice person on Etsy requested that I make greeting cards with my Angels on them (she was Christmas shopping in July & wished I had cards)and I have been working on that a little. I learned how to use a cutter, a gift that I hadn't used yet. I purchased pre-made white cards with envelopes, purchased new ink, yet I can't decide which ones to use, or how I am going to attach them in a nice way. funk. I have been pondering opening up a new Etsy shop for the "messes" I've been making. Pondering instead of doing. funk!
One of my artist "Sisters" shared this video and I couldn't help belly laughing! God gave us the rainbow so that we would remember his promise to never again destroy the earth by flood. Isn't it amazing that His promise, a simple rainbow, can still overwhelm us with emotion in this age where we think we've seen it all & are sometimes numb to our beautiful surroundings? Really who doesn't like rainbows? I think this funny guy was feeling the spirit of God whether he knew it or not. Have you felt like this before , just didn't video tape it, maybe held it inside? I know I have!

The 1930's Fashionistas...

...almost had it right! Who knew they were already thinking of climate changes & cell phones?!

I wish my "skirts have disappeared entirely" & I could use one of those electric belts about now! LOL I found this crazy video while working on Sometimes Things Are Just Black & White.
Last Tuesday I DvR'd "Double Exposure" and finally watched it last night. I found it channel surfin' on Tuesday. I didn't know the show existed so I missed the first 3 episodes. Snap! I think I'm hooked. I'm looking forward to The Rachel Zoe Project too. And to think I couldn't imagine what I was gonna do without LOST & Saving Grace!
A BIG SHOUT OUT goes to Sarah at Christian Artist Street Team on Etsy for featuring my Sunflower Angel! Also to Allison Strine Designs for including my Angel In A Big Bow in her wonderful Etsy Treasury entitled "Why Can't We Just Get Along".
Tonight my youngest son is playing at The Boardwalk. I'll be heading to the show in a little while. Tomorrow is 2nd Saturday in Sacramento. I'll be at the Marco Fuoco Gallery and hope to gallery hop a bit.
Hope you make it a fun weekend too!

Pollen Pollen...

...go away, leave me alone, I hate you! LOL If only I could take my eyeballs out and give them a good scratching! Oh I'm not really complaining, it's a small price to pay for all this loveliness! I'm gonna plant something! Hubby made square foot gardening boxes! They went in right in the front yard up against the house, the only place we have sun. You know my thumb is purple so say a little prayer for me! LOL I'm gonna go to the $ store & get some silverware to make some garden stakes. I am actually excited about planting & making those stakes. *those of you who really know me, just sit down, someone will get a paper bag, you're gonna be ok*

A Fungus Among Us?...

I found this mushroom while playing in the backyard with the little guy. Later, my hubby rented the movie Men Who Stare At Goats and I laughed all the way through it. I think George Clooney was better in this movie than in Up In The Air. Go figure.

Here is a link to Thomas Keller's Over-The-Top Mushroom Quiche which I plan to try as soon as I'm feeling up to making a big mess in the kitchen! Oh I bet it's evil all right. Don't you think a fresh spinach & strawberry salad with balsamic dressing would be really good to serve with this? If you try it before I do be sure to let me know how it turns out!

Looking For A Geeky Friend

My computer is not operational at the moment and I know you miss me! haha I miss my computer & dropping on blogs for sure. Seriously how did we live without computers? What was life like before the Internet? It is hard to remember! After many attempts by my hubby & son's to fix it, new hard drive, new memory, new whatevers & doo ma jiggies, phone calls that cost money, it went to the geek squad. They wanted to charge $140 to load in a operating disk that was from someone else's computer (Windows wont load) and it cost $70 & 3 days for them to suggest that! No thanks. Hubby went & picked it up. We are now waiting on a disk from Dell that cost $10. We should have bought a new computer when it first started going out even suggested that we get one again yesterday. The expense to fix it, phone calls to Dell, trips to Frys, the time,... but the guys won't give it up. They are determined they gonna fix it & it will be better than new. I am keeping my fingers crossed & saying a little prayer. So I am using my son's computer (when he isn't using it) but I can't post any pictures or scan anything. Thanks for still coming to see me even though it has been a bit boring here lately! I have 5 new Tiny Mighty Angels paintings to list as soon as I'm back in business.

Big thanks & shout outs to Abbasgirl, Terraworks & Fluur's for featuring my art in their wonderful Etsy Treasuries! All of them look like front pages to me!

I Hope To Be Dancing...

...in the next day or so. I'll be getting down like this lady when I do! My back is out and I have been hobbling around like I'm 90 for the last few days. It's awful. I hope this is the last of the bad luck me & my family have been stricken with lately. I miss painting, blogging, dropping on blogs, reading my favorite blogs & twittering! I have a gallery show next month & have no idea what I am painting for it yet and being out of commission is stressing me out more. However, (always a bright side)while immobile I did have some fun when I watched Ghost Town. I thought it was so funny! I even belly laughed a couple of times! The actors did a great job & it was worth the rental fee.

I have finished my commission paintings and will be concentrating on getting new things listed this week and working on paintings for the galleries. Also I was sent information on a show in Florida that puts the submitted artwork on billboards, so I may submit something for that as well, seems like fun!

Today I was emailed the one the funniest youtube videos I've ever seen! If you need a good belly laugh you must check this video out! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=T4_MsrsKzMM I used to sing to chorus of Bad Moon Rising by Creedence Clearwater... "there's a bathroom on the right" hahaha I thought that's what they were saying! Of course later I find out that it's just like the title "there's a bad moon on the rise"! LOL I still get teased about that one! So when I saw this video I couldn't quit laughing! I'm still laughing !! Nice way to start the day!
